About Rachel
Originally a musical theatre actor, Rachel received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Boston Conservatory of Music. After many years as a performer, she decided to take a different path and follow one of her other lifelong passions: working with children with developmental and medical differences.
Rachel earned a Master of Arts degree from City University of New York-Lehman College in 2016 and started her second career as a Speech-Language Pathologist. She began her speech career working as a medical speech pathologist at Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y., where she participated in the assessment and intervention of children ranging in age from 1 month to 21 years with complex medical conditions including premature birth, respiratory/pulmonary complications, pediatric dysphagia, behavioral feeding disorders, failure to thrive, congenital and acquired traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative disease, and a variety of congenital chromosomal anomalies.
In her subsequent position at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Rachel worked with the pediatric outpatient population, with interventions including tube feed weaning, speech and swallow treatment for tracheostomy patients (including placement and removal of Passy Muir Valves), Augmentative and Alternative Communication treatment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and a variety of other play-based treatments for children with various language and articulation delays or disorders.
Since relocating to California in 2021, Rachel has provided outpatient pediatric rehabilitation for a large hospital system in the L.A. area.
After many years working in both inpatient and outpatient medical settings, Rachel decided to branch out and bring speech therapy to children in a more personal way by working directly with families within their homes. Rachel loves the personal connection that in-home pediatric speech therapy nurtures between her and the families she works with.
